Hayling Hub.co.uk

Our community Hub is designed to support the excellent work that is carried out by so many people to help our local community.
We do not think it is enough to just provide a name address and telephone number. We feel it is important to provide an introducion to each charity and the work that they do. We will support all charities that are helping the Hayling Island community by promoting their events and projects.

Hayling Island community First Responders is a group of volunteers that try and give a 24/7 cover the community and visitors of Haying on behalf of the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS). We are trained by them to give emergency life saving treatment.

When you call 999 they will access your call and if they deem it appropriate they will call the Responder on call as they can normally attend, before the Ambulance, these vital minutes could make all the difference.

Situated at the extreme eastern end of Hayling Island at the entrance to Chichester Harbour, the Hayling Island Lifeboat Station provides  24 hour  marine emergency cover. Our volunteer crews provide cover for the 10,000 boat owners and their crews who are based in Chichester Harbour and to all mariners in the eastern approaches to the Solent.

The Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride started in 1986, when Peter McQuade, now President of the Ride, cycled alone from Paris to Hayling raising money for cot death research, following the death of the baby daughter of two close friends. Like many subsequent riders he had no great cycling experience. However, as the trip turned out to be easier than he had anticipated he persuaded another 17 cyclists to join him the following year.

The ride is now been running for 31 years. The 2016 ride left Portsmouth on Sunday 10th July 2016 travelling through Rennes and Laval  arriving in Le Mans on Wednesday arriving back in Hayling Island on Saturday 16th.

To date the ride has raised over £1.5 million pounds for charity with 100% of the monies raised going to charity. over 2000 riders have taken part over the years with many participants coming from all over the country. This is widely regarded as one of the most successful charity events run on the south coast.

Sue Ryder has two charity shops on the Island. We have 13 care centres across the UK, providing compassionate care and support for people with palliative, long-term and end of life needs. Our care services enable us to give support and care to people in residential and day centres, day clinics, in the community and in the comfort of their home.

We train and educate healthcare professionals, both our own healthcare professionals and for other external organisations. We work collaboratively with the Sue Ryder Centre for Palliative and End of Life Studies at the University of Nottingham. At Sue Ryder we’re passionate about providing incredible care to people in desperate need. That is why we also operate internationally and have done for over 20 years.

Haylings Best is an award winning group that was initially formed via the Market Towns Initiative to bring a new lease of life to our community, so that we can provide convenient access to the services that townspeople and surrounding communities depend on. Our aim is to promote Hayling Island as a vibrant, viable and independent community.

Our members projects include: Hayling Scarecrows, Playing on the Plaza. the Copp Memorial, Cycle Hayling, Hayling Billy 50 and Discover Hayling. We are continuing to develop programmes that take our community forward and also provide support to projects that share our aims to benefit the Hayling Island community.

The club was formed in 1964 by a group of local businessmen as a way of returning something worthwhile to the community, which supported their various businesses. It was thought best to support the less privileged in our society by means of various fund raising events. This is still the basic philosophy and there are now two key fundraising events each year. The annual BBQ at the Northney Farm and the Cabaret night currently held at Mill Rythe.

Currently most of our fund raising goes to financing the a mini-bus that we provide for the use of local charities. We are however able to support a number of local groups with donations from time to time and recent donations include: local scouts, Hayling United, and Hayling young at heart.
